Illusion of control

It is 8:05 and school starts at 8:40, my mind goes all over the place and I cannot hold it to myself and typical mum talk pops out:
“oh, you need to hurry up, you will be late!”
my wise son looks at me and says:
“you know, it is not helping me to do things faster”
and continues in his own pace…
now every morning I am trying to keep my mouth shut, but eventually I would say something like
“you know, it’s 8:05 already!”.
And what do you think I get in return?
“I was waiting when you will say something!”
Well, it is pure illusion of control, when I cannot hold my thoughts to myself: it gives me unconscious feeling that I am doing something about the situation, however in reality this is not the case.
Isn’t it the same in work environment as well: lack of confidence in the future/situation creates this urge to control things, leading to the feeling of doing something about it and making us more comfortable.
Useful question to have in mind: “how is it helping [anyone]?”
Have you been in situations where this desire of feeling of control took over?
